Hungarian-Romanian tourism committee meets

The Hungarian-Romanian tourism joint committee met in Gyula, S Hungary, on Thursday and participant agreed that latest statistics reflect favourable developments.

[MTI] The Hungarian side was headed by state secretary for tourism at the Local Government Ministry Miklos Kovacs, while the Romanian side was led by state secretary of the Ministry for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade, Tourism, and Freelance Professions Lucia Morariu.

As many as 8,829,256 Romanians visited Hungary last year, representing a 2.1 percent increase from 2006. Of them, 199,094 used commercial lodgings, 43.3 percent more than in 2006. Romanian citizens spent on average 1.8 days in Hungary last year.

The tourism joint committee agreed to expand cooperation in health tourism, education and training, as well as in rural tourism. Its next meeting will be held in Romania in 2009.
