Hungary hotel occupancy rate rises to 53.6pc in March

Average occupancy rate at selected three-, four- and five-star hotels in Hungary was 53.6pc in March 2008, well above the February rate of 48.6pc, but down from 54.6pc in March 2007, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported.

[MTI] In January-March the average occupancy rate was 47.0pc, up from 46.5pc in the same period a year earlier.

March guest nights at hotels inched down 0.2pc to 609,000 from the same month a year earlier, as against a rise of 7.3pc in February. January-March guest nights rose 2.6pc yr/yr.

In March, the number of guest nights rose at Budapest hotels, including an 11.3pc increase at four-star hotels, but fell everywhere else in the country.

Occupancy was the highest (62.7pc) at five-star hotels in Budapest. Four-star hotels in the Lake Balaton region had the lowest (39.5pc) occupancy rate in March.

Revenue per available room (REVPAR) was HUF 8,605 in March and HUF 7,657 in January March. The gross average room rate was HUF 16,044 in March and HUF 16,279 in January-March.
Gross room revenue rose 4.9pc in March from the same month a year earlier and was up 10.3pc yr/yr in January-March.
